Are there just too many people for the system to cope. Can SA , with low growth, fewer job opportunities and an investment negative economic policy keep up with the high birth rate? We talk about so much but never the problem of a high population growth rate . Teachers are doing , largely , their best but just to many kids.

I cannot agree that teachers are overpaid.

Their salaries should be *doubled* but based upon high or improved grades for their pupils.

Child support grants should follow the Brasil model and be linked to school attendance.

South Africa cannot afford an uneducated or semi-educated population.

You cannot agree with the data on South Africa's public sector wage bill. You cannot agree with the data on education, how much we spend on it, and how much we allocate to each area.

Unless you know where we can get more money to spend on education without incurring costs elsewhere (which is already heavily funded even by global standards), I will focus on how we allocate our existing resources.

Our educational outcomes are already abysmal with all this funding. And this has been the case for years. So the comment about us going to have a semi-literate population is a already a reality, not a possibility.

There are only trade offs in this world. No perfect solutions.
